Craft Village UK is relaunching a range of hand-carved African soapstone sculptures of characters from The Simpsons, made in the village of Tabaka in Kenya. The Simpsons “Stone Sculpts” range is handcrafted by a team of Tabaka master carvers and finished by the women of the village. The project, which includes twelve intricately carved 4.7″-high busts, has taken over three years to come to fruition. The twelve characters are Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie Simpson; Mr. Burns; Chief Wiggum; Sideshow Bob; Krusty; Groundskeeper Willie; Otto; and Moe.

After a soft launch in 2007, the product packaging has been redesigned to reflect the ethical nature of the range. Craft Village UK is now an accredited provisional member of the World Fair Trade Organization.

“The Simpsons sculpture range is fun and innovative, but more importantly it is actually having a direct affect on over 400 people in Kenya,” says Paul Young, founder of Craft Village UK. “Families who live two hours from the nearest town, are benefiting from every sale we make. It is the mission of Craft Village UK to improve the working and living conditions of the crafts people and their families by promoting fair wages and job creation. This year, with the exciting launch of the range, we are working to increase the positive impact we’ve already made in Tabaka.”

“This range is a totally unique addition to our licensing program,” says Carl Lumbard, senior vice president and managing director, Twentieth Century Fox Licensing & Merchandising (Booth #6327), Europe. “It offers fans of The Simpsons a quality product, while simultaneously having a positive economic impact in rural Kenya. We are really impressed by what Craft Village UK has achieved with the range and look forward to seeing this product on-shelf and making a difference to the villagers of Tabaka.”

Evian has partnered with internationally acclaimed French designer, Jean Paul Gaultier, to produce two unique and exclusive creations for 2009, the Evian Pret-a-Porter Bottle and the Evian Haute Couture Bottle.

Both the Evian Pret-a-Porter Bottle and the Evian Haute Couture Bottle by Jean Paul Gaultier made their global debut on October 4, during Paris Fashion Week.

“Jean Paul Gaultier has consistently pushed the boundaries of fashion. He is revolutionary in his craft, yet always maintains an air of elegance and class in his designs,” said Jeff Caswell, Vice President of Marketing for Evian North America.

“In this regard, Gaultier was the perfect fit for Evian. Gaultier has transcended the runways of France to become a household name worldwide, much in the same way that Evian has expanded its presence throughout the globe, ascending from a natural spring water in the French Alps enjoyed by the locals to being one of most favored drinking waters on earth.”

The Evian Pret-a-Porter Bottle is adorned with a pattern of interlocking snowflakes, while the Haute Couture Bottle, of which only seven will be released worldwide, is a cylindrical masterpiece, designed to remind all that pure water is rare, precious and something to be celebrated.

The collection of seven Haute Couture Bottles will travel around the globe as a complete exhibit, eventually to be auctioned with the proceeds going toward the Evian Water Protection Institute.

These Gaultier-designed bottles mark the second annual release of high-fashion creations from Evian. In late 2007, Evian launched the Limited Edition Evian Bottle by Christian Lacroix, which quickly became a favored item with the trendsetting crowd.

Seastone, the leading provider of specialty gift card packages and promotional programs, announced it has signed multiple licensing deals to utilize popular brands such as Elvis Presley and The Beatles in its gift card packaging. Through its Give-A-Gift brand, Seastone will offer shoppers innovative packages to personalize their gift card purchases, which now also include Batman, Betty Boop, Marilyn Monroe, I Love Lucy, Superman, John Wayne, Wizard of Oz, and Wonder Woman.

Following its recent success with Peanuts and Disney, Seastone will now offer its customers a complete lineup of products featuring popular icons and nostalgic entertainment figures that appeal to all ages. Christmas and birthdays are the top occasions for gift card giving, and this holiday season, younger consumers are expected to buy more gift cards, with 78% of purchasers between the ages of 18-24.

According to a 2008 National Research Network gift card study, nearly half of consumers say the perception that gift cards are impersonal is their top inhibitor for purchasing gift cards. As a result, stores are now offering personalized gift cards and packaging to make the gift more thoughtful.

“Seastone offers retailers the largest variety of gift card packaging on the market, and we are pleased to add these popular brands to our product lineup,” said Eric Child, Seastone president. “Consumers like to personalize their gift card purchases, and packaging with familiar characters allows them to do that. Adding these highly recognizable brands will help us appeal to a wide variety of tastes and preferences.”

The Streets of Buckhead, opening in fall of 2009, will offer a unique storefront shopping experience featuring an unsurpassed offering of luxury boutiques, as well as world-class dining and residences.

The exclusive lineup of merchants includes Hermes, Bottega Veneta, Oscar de la Renta, Etro, John Lobb, Loro Piana, Vilebrequin, Domenico Vacca and Optical Shops of Aspen, among many others.

The project is the vision of Ben Carter, a developer best known as the force behind the Mall of Georgia, but who grew up in Buckhead, an affluent neighborhood in Atlanta.

The Streets of Buckhead, which will feature over 500,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space, is resurrecting the site of the original Buckhead Village in Atlanta, which decades ago, featured a town square with local merchants and residences. Much like the original, The Streets of Buckhead experience extends beyond the retailers to residences, hotels and restaurants, like the New York mainstays Japonais and La Goulue. In addition to luxury boutiques, Ben Carter Properties projects 14 fine-dining restaurants, and several hundred residential units as well as the addition of one or more premium hotels over the course of the project.

“For decades, Madison and Fifth Avenues in New York and The Magnificent Mile in Chicago have offered world-class storefront shopping and dining for the discriminating consumer. The Streets of Buckhead offers many of those same luxury retailers, as well as luxury amenities and services in a street-level, open-air environment to create a truly unique experience for the sophisticated customer,” said Carter. “The Streets of Buckhead will not only be the premier shopping choice for area residents, it will be a leading luxury destination for affluent national and international travelers.”

Hearts On Fire, the pre-eminent consumer brand in the fine diamond jewelry business, was selected by Architectural Digest, the world’s leading design magazine, to be part of their exclusive Architectural Digest Greenroom at this year’s Primetime Emmy Awards. Backstage celebrities will be encouraged to experience chandelier firsthand. Hearts On Fire will be providing white glove service and celebrities will have the ability to touch and feel the movement of thousands of Hearts On Fire diamonds. After the Primetime Emmys, the chandelier will be for sale.

“The Hearts On Fire diamond chandelier is the most extravagant, brilliant, glamorous diamond chandelier ever made. You can’t even imagine when it is illuminated how spectacular it is,” said Katherine Rosenberg Pineau, Jewelry Designer for Hearts On Fire.

This year marks the diamond anniversary of the Primetime Emmys and AD100 interior designer Mark Boone, who designed the overall room, wanted the décor to reflect a diamond theme. Located offstage and accessible only to Emmy nominees and presenters, the center of the 625-square-foot room is the Hearts On Fire designed, one-of-a-kind, three-tiered chandelier, made with over 3,300 perfectly cut diamonds totaling over 1,000 carats and valued at more than 10 million dollars.

Officially named the “Hearts On Fire Diamond Chandelier,” the chandelier is plated with platinum and has a sleek and modern design consisting of a series of diamond strands that are illuminated by fiber optics. The chandelier was hand-made in Boston by a team lead by Katherine Rosenberg Pineau, Hearts On Fire’s jewelry designer, and guarded under 24-hour security Emmys week in Los Angeles.
