Disney Pushes The Princess and the Frog Merchandise

In anticipation of the upcoming Dec. 11 release of The Princess and the Frog, Disney Consumer Products has rolled out an extensive line of themed merchandise.

Major retailers nationwide are stocking their shelves with toys and electronics, including the Just One Kiss Disney Princess Tiana doll, Princess Tiana doll in her bayou dress, role-play costumes, play sets and plush.

Girls’ Princess Tiana bedding is available now at department stores and JCPenney’s is carrying a film-themed watch and tiara exclusively. Other items include a limited-edition porcelain Princess Tiana “Wishing On the Evening Star” collectible figurine from Enesco (specialty dealers), oil-based artwork from Thomas Kinkade, Magical Collection hair care and bubble bath products from Carol’s Daughter (specialty stores, Disney Store and www.carolsdaughter.com), role-play cosmetics and Band-Aid adhesive bandages from Johnson & Johnson (mass retailers), Tummy Tickler juices from In Zone Brands (grocery stores) and fruit-flavored snacks from Kellogg’s (grocery stores). Stationery product, including craft and activity sets, journals, Sticker packets, paper party sets, cake décor, calendars and holiday wrapping paper, has rolled out to major retailers, Party City, Party America and independent and online specialty party stores.

Disney Store exclusives include a handcrafted jewelry box, bookends, a snow globe featuring Princess Tiana and her prince in a wedding scene, role-play costumes, plush and dolls.

“It is typical with any major Disney film to see movie-inspired product available as early as six weeks prior to the film’s release, and the same is true for The Princess and the Frog,” says Mary Beech, vice president franchise development and marketing for Disney Consumer Products. “However, the historic nature of the release of The Princess and the Frog film has generated tremendous consumer excitement well in advance of the film—and sales thus far have been very strong, something that is remarkable for characters with which fans are not yet completely familiar.”

Higher-tier merchandise includes a Princess Tiana-inspired bridal gown addition to the Kirstie Kelly for Disney Fairy Tale Weddings (spring 2010), trend-forward fashion tops inspired by the book “The Art of Disney Princess” (available now at specialty boutiques) and gold jewelry by Kidada Jones for Disney Couture (specialty retailers only).

The film is also being supported on online platforms such as Facebook (www.facebook.com/DisneyLiving) and Twitter (www.twitter.com/DisneyLiving).
