Panini, NBA Team Up for Exclusive Trading Card Deal

The National Basketball Association

Worldwide collectible publisher The Panini Group has inked its first-ever exclusive trading card and sticker deal in the United States with the National Basketball Association. Beginning with the NBA’s 2009-2010 season, Panini will create NBA trading cards, stickers and sticker albums. The company will also offer marketing and promotional support through TV, print, Web and in-store events. In addition to trading cards, the NBA has more than 200 licensees in categories such as video games, apparel, footwear and sport goods.

“As the leading global sports league, the NBA provides Panini with an international platform to expand the global trading card and collectibles markets by building our business in the US and attracting new
collectors around the world,” says Peter Warsop, director of Panini Group Licensing. Meanwhile, the group is currently in final talks for a new office location in the US for Panini America and is seeking out industry professionals, including a chief executive officer. Besides the NBA deal, Panini’s presence in North America spans partnerships with Disney’s Hannah Montana and High School Musical, Warner Bros.’ Harry Potter, and UEFA Euro 2008 and FIFA Word cup sporting events.
