Sony Pictures to Distribute CBS Films Overseas

A three-year marketing and distribution deal has been signed between Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions Group and CBS Films. The agreement sees Sony distributing CBS Films’ productions to international theaters, as well as worldwide distribution of the unit’s films in the home entertainment market.

Domestic theatrical distribution will continue to be handled by CBS Films. The studio also retains rights in a limited number of foreign territories.
“We are always looking for high-quality motion pictures that we can distribute around the world,” says Steven Bersch, president of Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions Group. “Our agreement with CBS Films gives us a steady stream of first-run theatrical product that will play exceptionally well abroad, as well as in the worldwide home entertainment arena.”

Meanwhile, the two studios are currently collaborating on the production of Faster, an action-thriller for fall 2010. It stars Dwayne Johnson and Billy Bob Thornton.

CBS Films’ other upcoming features include Extraordinary Measures (Jan. 22), Back-Up Plan (spring 2010) and Beastly (July 30, 2010).
