Halcyon, the recently bankrupt production company, is reportedly putting the Terminator IP up for auction this month.
According to the Financial Times, rumored contenders include Sony Pictures, Summit Entertainment, Media Rights Capital and Platinum Equity. The rights to the IP will include new films, TV series and other spin-offs. It will not include rights to the earlier films.
Halcyon acquired the Terminator franchise, including films and licensing rights, in May 2007. The company filed for Chapter 11 in August and appointed FTI Capital Advisors as its bankruptcy counsel. FTI will handle the Terminator sale.
This year, the property saw its fourth film installment Terminator Salvation release in May, which earned $371.4 million worldwide. A TV series “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles” debuted in 2008, but was not renewed for a third season in 2009.
