Paramount Home Entertainment has reported 7.5 million DVD and Blu-ray disc units sold of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, making it the biggest-selling 2009 title in debut-week sales.
The number is nearing what was done in 2007 with the first film installment, which sold 8.3 million North American units in the first week.
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, from Paramount Pictures and DreamWorks and in association with Hasbro, hit big screens worldwide in June and made more than $400 million in the U.S.
The licensing program for the second film installment, led by a complete toy line from Hasbro, also included an apparel line with Jem Sportswear; watches, clock and backpacks with F.A.B. Starpoint; and Activision for a game (Xbox 360, Playstation 2 and 3, Wii, Playstation Portable, Nintendo DS and Windows PC). It also had promotions with Kmart, Burger King and Mars Snackfood U.S.
Transformers 3 is currently in development and is slated for a July 2011 release.
