U.S. Sees Uptick in October Retail Sales

Same-store sales, excluding Walmart, improved in October, increasing by 2.3 percent and topping last month’s 0.8 percent rise, according to Retail Forward’s monthly report of about 30 retailers.

Among the biggest gains: TJX (10 percent); Ross (9 percent); Nordstrom (6.5 percent) and Buckle (4.3 percent).

Among the biggest declines: Abercrombie & Fitch (-15 percent); Zumiez (-8.9 percent), Dillard’s (-8 percent); and Neiman Marcus (-6 percent).
Target’s October same-store sales declined 0.1 percent; Macy’s declined 0.8 percent and Hot Topic declined 2.6 percent.

Kohl’s and Walgreens posted increases in comps for October, 1.4 percent and 4.9 percent, respectively.
