Walmart Unveils Family Night Area in Stores, Names Asia CEO

A new family night-focused area is popping up at Walmart stores this month, featuring a variety of board games from Hasbro, DVDs from Disney and snacks — all for under $30. “With busier schedules and kids heading back to school, now is a great time to provide a dedicated place in our stores to give mom the savings and ideas to create fun, quality time for her family this fall,” says Laura Phillips, chief toy officer and senior vice president of entertainment at Walmart.

“Our Family Night Center is designed to provide an easy way to quickly design a complete family night experience.”

Licensed offerings will include Hasbro’s Candy Land, Chutes and Ladders, and Monopoly; and Disney movies from Camp Rock and Pirates of the Caribbean to High School Musical (1 and 2).

In other news, US native Scott Price was recently named executive vice president, president and chief executive officer of Walmart Asia, where he will manage the company’s operations in China, India and Japan.

Price will be based in Hong Kong and will report directly to Doug McMillon, president and chief executive officer of Walmart International. Prior to his appointment, Price was chief executive officer of DHL Express Europe.

“Scott brings tremendous global and regional experience and expertise to this position,” says McMillon. “He is the ideal candidate to lead this highly competitive region. In his roles with Coca Cola and DHL, he has established a history of delivering results in the Asian markets. He knows the countries, he knows the customers, he knows how to run a business and he knows the region’s potential. We are eager to leverage his insight and capabilities to further our efforts in this region.”

In Asia, Walmart operates approximately 630 locations.
