We will explore the NEW retail landscape and NEW methods to maximize your licensing programs. We will also look at best practices from some of the leading companies in the licensing industry. Our expert panel will discuss their own strategic approach to licensing and share many ideas that are sure to make your licensing endeavors more lucrative.

Seltzer Licensing Group

A specialist in brand licensing, partnership marketing, and strategic alliances, Stuart is an expert in analyzing, crafting, and securing partners for clients such as Unilever, Safeway and Starwood Hotels. His extensive first-hand knowledge of the industry and skills as a negotiator were developed while managing the licensing for Yves Saint Laurent of America and at DC Comic’s division of Warner Bros. He has helped many national companies and brands including Chef Boyardee, Evenflo and Kraft Foods reap the best possible return on their marketing investment.

Stu is in his 8th year as an adjunct professor at New York University, where he teaches a 3-credit course on brand Licensing. He has also served on the board of the Licensing Industry Merchandisers Association (LIMA) for six years. Early in his career Stuart honed his analytical ability while working as a CPA at Arthur Andersen & Co. He is a graduate of Lehigh University and holds an MBA from Columbia Business School.

Steven Cohen is Vice President of Licensing at CSS Industries, which through its Paper Magic and Clio divisions is a leading maker of seasonal and everyday decorative products such as gift wrap, gift bags, ribbons, bows, and cards, as well as floral, craft, and packaging items. The company also makes dye for Easter eggs (Dudley's), valentines for classroom exchange, and Halloween makeup and costumes. From October 1989 to June 1999, he served as Executive Vice President of Disguise Inc., a manufacturer and distributor of costumes. Steven has also served as a board member for LIMA (Licensing Industry Manufacturers Association). Steven is also an attorney.

Cheryl Rubin, President of Powerhouse Branding, is known for her vast expertise in global brand management for high profile licensed brands.

Powerhouse Branding Group provides expert consulting services and resources in strategic planning, creative development, and program management to help brands “power up” their licensing potential.

Prior to forming Powerhouse Branding, Cheryl was SVP Brand Management for Warner Bros./DC Entertainment, where she managed the growth of DC Comics’ portfolio of properties, including Batman, into over $16B in retail sales across media platforms and consumer products.

Working with Time Warner, Warner Bros. divisions, filmmakers, creative talent, and hundreds of business partners around the globe, Cheryl successfully led strategic brand development, global brand management, licensing and integrated brand marketing for DC Comics’ classic properties, six Batman films, two Superman films, sixteen animated series, eight live action TV series and over fifty interactive games. She also led creative teams to produce over 400 brand style guides, managed product development across thousands of licensed products, and supervised both DC’s global licensed publishing and DC Direct collectibles businesses.

Prior to Warner Bros./DC Entertainment, Cheryl was the Marketing Manager for Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and Annual Events.

Cheryl served two terms on the Licensing Industry Merchandisers Association (LIMA) Board of Directors from 1997-2001. She has been a guest speaker at NYU, at Storyworld, the leading Transmedia conference, Licensing Expo, and for LIMA.

Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia

Russell Brown was named SVP, Consumer Products Licensing for Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia in January 2012. In this position, he is responsible for developing and negotiating new merchandising opportunities for all MSLO Brands. 

A seasoned executive with more than 30 years of experience in business development and marketing as well as a strong background in licensing and retail, Mr. Brown joined MSLO from Forum Telecom, Inc., where he served as EVP Sales and Marketing and Chief Marketing Officer, developing and managing all client relationships for the international mobile phone marketer.

Prior to Forum Telecom, Mr. Brown was President, Business Development and Marketing for B. Smith Enterprises; EVP of Licensing, Promotions and Ad Sales at Marvel Enterprises; President and co-founder of 360 EP, Inc., and previously, an agency background in advertising and promotion at Young & Rubicam, Interpublic, Don Jagoda Associates and DL Blair.

Mr. Brown holds a B.S. and an M.B.A. from Fordham University, where he is currently an adjunct professor and marketing department board member.
