Our Commitment

At Informa, we achieve sustainable commercial success through thoughtful market focus and superior results for our customers. Being a sustainable business is central to how we run our events, how we make decisions and how we do business every day.

Our continuing evolution is fueled by insight, innovation, and collaboration. We are proud of our commitment to having a positive environmental and social impact on both the communities and industries we work within.

At Informa we have identified six main areas of focus for delivering a sustainable event, these are stakeholder engagement, carbon mitigation, material use and waste management, procurement, community and charitable giving, and health and safety. For each of our events we identifying areas for improvement, set objectives, implementing change and then report on our progress in regards to these six areas. This process results in us continually driving forward the sustainability of our events.

The below sets out Licensing Expo’s overarching aim and key achievements or each of our six key areas.

  1. Carbon Mitigation

Our aim is to reduce the carbon impact of our events by 11.4% by 2020. By doing this, we reduce our contribution to climate change and its effects.

    What we are doing:

    - We have combined our show daily and show guide in one handout and moved our show directory to our mobile app to reduce the impact of our printing.
    - We worked with the Mandalay Bay Convention Center to upgrade their hall lighting to 100% LEDs to reduce energy consumption by 85%.
    - We calcultate the event's carbon impact to track progress and identify areas for improvement.

  2. Stakeholder Engagement

Our aim is to engage everyone involved in our events with both what we are doing, and what they can do to increase the sustainability of our events.

    What we are doing:

    - We guide our exhibitors and visitors on how they can help improve the sustainability of the event.
    - Click here to find out what to consider while exhibiting, such as how to design your stand.
    - Click here to find out what to consider as a visitor.

  3. Material Use and Waste Management

Our aim is for everything to be either reused or recycled at the end of the show, therefore reducing both the amount of resources we use and the waste we create.

    What we are doing:

    - In 2017, we diverted over 80% of all waste generated during Licensing Expo.
    - We work with our contractors to return temporary carpeting back to inventory or recycle what cannot be used again.
    - We carefully design our feature areas such as the Global Licensing Group Theater and the Matchmaking Service Lounge so that they create minimal waste.

  4. Community and Charitable Giving

Our aim is for all of our events to have an industry relevant charity partner, so that we support our community and ensure that our events have a positive legacy.

    What we are doing:

    - We partner with Licensing International (formerly LIMA) to support Licensing International Cares and the Children’s Brain Tumor Tissue Consortium (CBTTC). Click here to learn more about the CBTTC.
    - We donate any leftover reusable materials to the Blind Center of Nevada. Click here to learn more about the Blind Center of Nevada.

  5. Procurement

Our aim is to look at the economic, environmental and social aspect of all of our purchases, to ensure the products and services we use help us achieve a sustainable event.

    What we are doing:

    - We look to procure items made from recycled content such as our carpeting and signage.
    - We partner with our caterers to provide locally- and sustainably-sourced meals.

  6. Health and Safety

Our aim is to ensure the safety of all onsite through implementing best practice health and safety processes.

    What we are doing:

    - Leading the events industry in the implementation of health and safety.
